Website and Web Page
🎬 This chapter has a 12:38 video: Web Services →A school website has a page about admissions, one with results, one with contact details. Each of those is a web page. All of them together, under one name, are the website.
1Web page and website
Web page
A web page is a single document on the World Wide Web that is viewed in a web browser. Its structure is written in HTML. It can hold text, pictures, audio, video and links.
Website
A website is a collection of related web pages, linked to each other by hyperlinks, stored on a web server and grouped under one domain name, usually with a common design.
The first page of a website is its home page. It usually has links to the other pages. Every page also has its own address, so you can go straight to one page without passing the home page.

| Web page | Website | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | One document | Many related web pages |
| Address | Its own URL | One domain name for all its pages |
| Example | The results page of a school site | All of www.sunriseschool.example |
A page and a book
A web page is one page of a book. A website is the whole book: the pages belong together, the contents page (the home page) points to all of them, and the book has one title (the domain name).
Good to know: static and dynamic web pages
A static web page is the same for everyone until someone edits it, like a school’s “About us” page. A dynamic web page is built fresh by the server each time it is asked for, and can be different for each visitor — your exam result, today’s weather. The next page, Static and Dynamic Web Pages, is the whole story. It is on the Informatics Practices syllabus and not the Computer Science one.
